CDL – Data centre
Raising the Standards in Air Conditioning Distribution
Cool Designs are a leading air-conditioning business based in the North East. Having worked with the business successfully on a number of projects over the last few years, they approached Union Room to explore the development of a brand new data centre which would store and present all Toshiba product data for users.
The data centre needed to be designed mobile first, as a key criteria for the project is to serve all of the data in a user friendly fashion, with mobile users ‘on site’ in mind. The aim is to make the data centre a first port of call for anyone looking for relevant documentation and specification detail, reinforcing CDL’s position and reputation as a leading business within the sector.
We started by working up a design/prototype to show both the proposed user journey and also our proposed solution to the issue of how best to present the data given the sheer quantity of data we need to serve, particularly on a small screen.

Following client feedback and design approval, we proceeded with the build, which incorporated a horizontal accordion to make it easy for users to work through the technical specification tables on mobile devices. The resource centre was then launched following testing and feedback.
We’ve had great feedback on the tool so far, and we’re looking to expand the resource centre to incorporate more brands and technical documents in the near future.
